Gourmet Apples!

Gourmet Apples!

The weather here in upstate NY during mid-late August can really make you think about Autumn. The days are not too hot or humid and the nights are cool, windows open, blankets on, type of sleeping. The other day while grocery shopping with my children, they were asking for everything under the sun, can I have a cookie? No! Can I have this sugary cereal? No! I NEED this ice cream! NO, NO, NO!!!(#1 reason for them to go back to school is so I can shop alone again!!). My 9 year old daughter asked me to make applesauce. In the fall I usually make enough for the year, but we ran out a couple of months ago. As we were picking apples, my daughter pick up one of the big granny smiths and said, “Mom, can’t you dip these in chocolate??” And that was it, the wheel were turning quickly. By the time we left I had 40 dollars in ingredients and was ready for the test kitchen. 2 days later I think I have the knack of it, and I have to say these apples are REALLY impressive. They are large enough to feed 2-3 people for sure. All are dipped in caramel first, then in Berrylicious Chocolate. Either Dark, White or Milk. Then the real fun begins, the toppings. So far we have tried, nuts, coconut, kit kat, heath bar, sugar dust, sprinkles, we did one with all 3 chocolates drizzled. We can make just about any combination you like the options are endless!
