And the Winner is…….

And the Winner is…….

On May 2nd Berrylicious Bouquets attended the Bacon, Brews, and Brims Kentucky Derby Party. It was held as a fundraiser at the National Racing Hall of Fame and Museum. Attendees were encouraged to wear their Derby finery and they really rocked that out. The outfits were amazing. While touring the museum in fantastic Derby wear, they were invited to tastings by winery’s, craft brewers and local distilleries. Local restaurants were invited to bring their best Bacon inspired dish for attendees to taste.

Berrylicious was honored to be invited as one of the signature “chef’s”. Now I am well aware I am not a chef, heck I am not even a chocolatier, I know a true chocolatier (shout out to Michelle) and she is amazing!! What I do is try and make items out of melted chocolate and flavor profiles that explode in your mouth. Our White Chocolate covered Strawberry with Sugar Dust is one example of this. When I was contacted to participate in the event is was because of our use of bacon with chocolate. I decided to make something completely different and original. The goal is to have one bite hit all the spots of your palate, so we have salty, sweet, tart, plus creamy and crunchy all in one bite. I tried quite a few combinations until I thought I had it just right. The best combination was Dark Chocolate with Bacon(cooked to perfection), craisin and sea salt. Every one of my taste testers assured me that it was fantastic.

At the end of the day a winner of Best Bacon Inspired Dish was picked by Ashely Dingeman, Saratoga Food Fanatic. I stayed by my table talking with guests while they made the announcement. I figured I was not even in the running since I was a sweet item…..I was WRONG!! I was awarded the Best Bacon Inspired dish and was told that I had the “Best Bite of the Day” but so many guests. You can imagine my shock and surprise. It truly made my week. I guess I better start working on something for next year:)
